The most common form of incontinence is stress urinary incontinence resulting from weak pelvic floor muscles. Everyday actions that use the pelvic floor muscles, such as coughing, sneezing, or laughing, can cause you to leak urine. Urge incontinence occurs when people feel an urge to urinate more than 8 times in a day or feel an urge to urinate when touching or hearing water. Overflow incontinence may occur when the bladder muscle has weakened. Roughly 1 out of 2 women over the age of 65 experience stress urinary incontinence. Incontinence can unfortunately become a particularly expensive issue if a person needs to constantly purchase liners, pads, or adult diapers.
