Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder. Women who suffer from PCOS experience exceptionally painful periods, bouts of infertility, and obesity caused by insulin resistance and unmanageable cravings. PCOS is caused by imbalanced hormones that create cysts (small fluid-filled sacs) inside the ovaries. PCOS patients tend to show an elevated risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mood/eating disorders, and endometrial hyperplasia and cancer.
